When taking psychology courses in college, some of the courses touched on grief, but not on the grieving process. Nine years ago, I lost my beloved husband and the father of my two children and I went into a period of great mourning.
It was then that I realized that I wanted to help others who were suffering the great loss of a parent, child, spouse or pet. I also learned that there are other forms of grief such as suffering the loss of a career, friend, home or relative. Even aging can bring on grief of looking back over a life of what we have had and lost with time.
Becoming a Grief Counselor has brought me great satisfaction and purpose in my own life, as well as being able to look ahead and to face the inevitable future without my husband. To be able to help others in their time of need is my profound purpose and goal. It brings me great joy everyday to see folks be able to come out of the darkness and move forward again with life!
